The Next Life of "Friends"
"Friends" a comedy series about a group of close friends and how they tackle life. But in this story the characters are reborn. Although some parts of their original characteristics still remain.
Monica and Phoebe are sisters. Rachel is their cousin and is now engaged to Ross. She met him while on holiday in London. Joey however lives by himself around the same neighborhood. And Chandler couldn't quite make it...
“Phoebe! Phoebe!”
The sound of the curtains being pulled back came like a thunder cracking in broad daylight. Opening my eyes I could see Monica staring down at me.
“Hurry up will you. You only have a few hours till they get here,”said Monica.
Rubbing my eyes to adjust to the bright light that shone in them, I got up and headed for the bathroom. While in there, I could hear Monica noisily setting up utensils in the kitchen. I could picture her labelled containers all done up in a single file like a row of soldiers awaiting her commands all ready to dive into her cooking. She had everything planned out for cousin Rachel and her fiancee Ross.
“Hey would you be able to look out for this while it cooks. I’ll be right back,” Monica said as I stepped into the kitchen.
I starred at the pot. It must feel so hot sitting there so still and having to go through all that heat just to have people eat out of it.
“Oh you poor thing, you must be boiling in suffocation,” I empathized with it and took it off the stove.
The door bell rang.
I went to get the door with a smile of immense glee on my face. “Aww... look at you,” said Rachel . “So glad to see you again too!” I said excitedly. I hugged Rachel and Ross.
Rachel and Ross made their way indoors. I shut the door behind me but it bounced back like someone had just pushed it. I held the door just in time before it hit me on the face. I looked outside but could see nothing that could possibly prevent it from closing. I walked back in to shut it again. But this time a gust of wind came in and blew the vase off the coffee table. It fell with a clatter but did not break.
“Who is that?” I called out, not knowing what I expected to hear.
Out of the blue a foggy figure came before my eyes, bobbing up an down in mid air. It gave me the shivers. I looked up at it and froze at the spot. I could hear Rachel’s laughter coming from the kitchen. It sounded like they were all engrossed in a delightful conversation and here I was, couldn't even move an inch of my body. The foggy figure circulated around me. It had no face just a hallow foggy shape with smoke like substance whirling about. I really wished it would just leave.
I started to feel my brain becoming cold as ice. I shut my eyes tight. I could hear a soft murmur. I tried listening closely.
The voice said,“My name is Chandler, you may not remember me. You and I were very good friends. Monica was my wife. We used to have this whole group of friends,”it said as if laughing at that fact.
Closing my eyes even tighter I asked, “ Why aren’t you with us in this life, Chandler?” How do I remember you, I can’t even see your face.”
“Well that is true, Phoebe. Now I want you to concentrate hard on what I show you and you will be able to see your past life," replied Chandler.
My head started spinning and in came an image of a whole group of people, in it were three guys, one I could recognize as Ross and the other looked like the guy who lived across the street from us.

“The next guy is me,” said Chandler’s voice. As if he just read my train of thoughts on what I was seeing.
He then went on to tell me why he had no physical body and lived a partial life. It all happened on one very unfortunate day, when returning from work he had been kidnapped and stabbed to death by a lose serial killer. It was his most terrifying moment.
“I could only picture Monica, the way she looked on her wedding day. She gave me strength and hope to let go of my body and now here I am in the form of spirit only,” a sense of sadness took over his voice.
“I can’t live and I can’t die completely but I just wanted you all to know Pheobs, that I will always be looking over you. My heart still weeps in separation and I still long to be part of a family again,” his voice became shaky. As though invisible tears had flooded his non existent eyes, he became silent.
I consoled Chandler and told him that it was best he moved into the spirit world. Once we completed our present life we were going to join him and that it was just only a matter of time. Hearing this he became content with his situation. The living room door opened itself and I felt Chandler move out.
I never mentioned Chandler’s presence to anyone. It was best untold. The past was gone and now it was a new life, a new beginning.
