This story is about the discovery of the last Dragon egg in Alagaesia. The first part of this story, the prologue, is somewhat unrealistic even for the story which it has come from. One of the reasons in which I think this is because, in the stories it is said that Galbatorix, the powerful king and 'bad guy', makes his servants say oaths in the ‘Ancient Language’ so that they cannot run away from him. So it is surprising then that the servant in this story is able to get away, with the kings most prized object and all, without being caught or seen in the process. As for the second part of the story I thought it was quite good. The author captured the characters quite well though there were a few things that were said that are hard to believe that these characters would say. Despite these things I think this is a good fanfic of the ‘Inheritance Cycle’ and I would like to read more to see what the author does.
Drama/Adventure
I like this fanfiction, as it tells about how Brom lost his dragon Saphira to Morzan. This is not told in the main novels and is an interesting idea to develop. I like how the author has made the younger character of Brom a lot like the character of Eragon. The writer has also added in the emotional moment, for both the reader and characters, of Saphira passing. Though when they got to the stage of Brom being in the after-life, I thought the story became strange and didn’t really fit with the rest of the story that they had done. Also they lost the character of Brom, he stayed as he had when he was younger instead of becoming the wise, old man who is in the books.
Fantasy/Adventure
This fanfiction is someone’s idea on what is going to happen in the last book of the ‘Inheritance Cycle.’ This is a good story, though the realism about the events that happen in it is questionable. The fact of the ‘character wearing a dark cloak’, the story, managing to steal the last egg as well as being able to rescue the elven prisoner from the kings castle without being caught is not very likely at all. Also the fact of Murtagh changing sides, or his true name, at the very being of the story is also highly unlikely. I thought it was a good idea though.
Angst/Hurt/Comfort
I think that it is an interesting idea to have a song in the story, for not only the character but also the story itself. The author has represented Murtagh well in this fanfic and stayed true to the character that Christopher Poalini has already set. But despite this there are a couple of things to question in the story. For example, the king knowing about Oromis and Glaedr. It is mentioned in one of the books that they are secret and no one other than the elves know he is still alive. The second thing in which I found curious, was the king having Thorns ‘heart of hearts’ I believe that it is also said in one of the books that Thorn still has it. I found it an amusing thought picturing Murtagh singing though I like it. I like the song chose as it fits quite well. The author could have been more careful with their copying as they included “Find more lyrics at .com!!!”
Adventure/Romance
This fanfiction is set in the future of the original stories. I like this story as it shows the initial characters when they are older and in more of a position of authority than in the books and also with new characters. It is well written and easy to imagine these things happening in the future of the stories. I think that the character of Murtagh needs to be looked at again as they have made him quite different to in the books.
Hurt/Comfort/Romance
Taste of Freedom
My first two reactions to this fanfiction were; one that it is awesome, well written and highly imaginative; and second the desire to start crying!! The author has written this story well. They set up the scene and draw you into the story well. You never know what is going to happen and yet when it does your almost not surprised at all. The whole scene is easy to imagine. Both characters are highly realistic. The author catches the characters emotions well, and you can relate to them. It is very much a tragedy as does well as one and it keeps true to this the whole way through.
