FRIENDS
The saddest version of the happy friends! It’s like I actually cried. A very touching flow of writing too. Had a familiar base to what the actual characters are like and so the dialogging among them seems to connect well. Even though the atmosphere wasn't what a usual friends episode would have been like. There is mostly joy and humor is those whereas this story took us to a more emotional level, I felt the intense connection among the group of friends. When Monica and Chandler's house burns down and they lose their kids. They move in with Joey and things seem to go back in time when they used to live like that. It emphasized on the point that life is what we make of it. When Candler connects with the ghost of Monica it’s a satisfactory ending as they both go towards the white light. Here it showed that Chandler had deep connection with Monica and that if she wasn't there for him, he literally had no life on his own. However, it was very interesting how only Phoebe could only see them and off course, this fits in very well with the fact we know that she is a very different personality so it did make sense that she was the only who could see ghosts. This came as a very good asset as she could communication Chandler and Monica’s final message to everyone else.
Overall, there some good humor and also connected very well to original source it terms of character and setting.
Crime
This was the weirdest fanfic of friends. Basically, it was based on a dream of the writer which made almost anything possible. The story line had no set flow and everything just happens to happen. Like in the actual series Emily has nothing against Rachel in any way but here we see that she is planning to murder her and with her is Ross. Off course, Ross would never be part of such scheme as we see in his real character. The whole evil plan made against Rachel is overly exaggerated which she didn't deserve. Also it can be said that the part of Joey here is very suited, he comes and takes Rachel to Disney land. One would expect Joey to do such things anyway, being his silly self he is. On the other hand, it is rather confusing that he comes out of nowhere when Rachel is making a run from her murders.
Overall, it was a really exciting story however strange the whole flow was.
Poem
To every audience Rachel and Ross are a true couple and it seems obvious that they were meant to be. This poem is solely about them. It portrayed the emotional attachment they had for each other in a very tender way. I liked how Rachel says" I thought you were one of the weirdest guys" That was hilarious. The writer showed how their love had developed throughout the seasons and now their baby Emma is a part of their world. It felt as if the writer summarized all the seasons of their togetherness. However, it is not very evident that they do get married in the end. In this poem Ross is asking her hand in marriage. In the final season it was just that they do go back in a relationship and it was their last break up. They could have remained partners and not actually married. We are not shown what actually happens to them afterwards.
Overall, it was short and nice description of Rachel and Ross's true love with a truly happy ending.
Sci-fi
A very alien feeling was there to this even though the setting was in the city. For Chandler the situation was really way beyond his usual day. He was all bleeding and it stated that it was his wife that did it. And the real Monica would never do that to Chandler even if they did have a huge fight. But I liked the fact how everything was in suspense and was slowly revealed as the story went on; it was like hanging on to every word. It was torture really, but all worth the read. The atmosphere set was a little spooky as well. Like when the cab slowed down and all its doors were stuck. Then the blast of blood from the interior of the cab while all this while Chandler tries to open the door and get the driver out. Not being successful at it he falls to the ground and upon getting back up sees that the body of the cab driver had just vanished from the cab. However, it was a bit disappointing how the story isn't complete and just ends right there and one is left to conclude what might be the case. It could be alien invasion or something around that or about a beginning of war between humans and aliens.
Overall, it was well written and had a great story but the lack of details on the happening was the only down side of it.
Supernatural
A mixture of a bit of magic in the house. It was about Monica preparing for a cooking competition and now it seems that she gets all ready for competition when someone gave her "a look" about not entering. She is very typical Monica and is being very competitive in nature and it seemed that it was put to good use in this story. Even Ross and Rachel sounded like themselves. Chandler is a bit disappointed it seems that Monica had not informed him of Ross and Rachel's being present at their house as testers for her cooking. Also that she had also opted to stay with Joey during the competition week. And Monica's family was also coming over. Monica claims that she did not inform him about it because he had to be at work but Chandler suggested he would take sick leave from work for it. I think it was very nice of Chandler here that he wanted to be there for Monica and off course on screen the couple are like that as well. The only thing that was strange about this was that Chandler was made to feel out of the whole original plan that was made by Monica and he wasn't given much importance. In the end, Monica's spoon just happens to land up from the bowl in baby Erica's hand. Thats where the little supernatural part is, taken from the charmed series. Baby Erica just might have powers.
Overall, it all related well to the original characters with a mixture of charmed but was not a complete story, it was left hanging.
Romantic
Well this was a very romantic one. Everything happens in just one day which is strange. I mean a normally reasonable person would not agree to go out with a stranger to so many places and even on the boat in the end. It was creepy that Chandler was mean to her when she Monica texts him and then suddenly comes out of nowhere on her way back home and actually asks her out. I just feel that as a reasonable person she would not have really done that. And Chandler is not that “popular” as he was portrayed in this story. Even making Rachel obsessed about him was really something. What the original story goes like was that Chandler did not find Monica attractive in high school when she had a lot of weight on. And also here we see that Ross is one of her friends when actually Ross is her brother. And so it was weird for them to be introduced to each other as friends. Things happened a bit too fast between them. Especially since it was her first day and If chandler was so in love with her then I guess he should have waited to show her then do all that in the first day, I guess at that rate their love would never have lasted, as it did in the actual episodes. Monica seems to have been carried away too much with Chandler at this first instance. He could have taken advantage of her. I personally feel that the way his character is portrayed in this story is not trustworthy at all.
Overall, the whole romantic part is all so nice but I guess the story should have developed more in terms of their relationship before going on to those moments.
Angst
Here we found a very confused and drunk Chandler trying to hold in his feeling for Rachel and trying to keep up with Ross’s words of not eying another guy’s girl. He fantasies about Rachel in his thoughts as he is watching her sleep by hiding in her closet. It was funny how he said that he was “admiring her fashion” when she wakes up and inquires about his strange behavior. However, this can be relevant to the real Chandler and Rachel in the series as they actually had feeling for each other, which is revealed in a private conversation they have when Rachel is moving to Pairs in season 10. And they have also known each other through Ross for a long time. So this scene in this fan fiction can be related to that fact. Although, the story is not being continued and is left to make one think of what might if Chandler went on with Rachel in the way he fantasies. Which is vice-versa in the original story line as in Rachel once fantasized about Chandler once. It does seem a bit odd though when they both have good partners, namely Ross and Monica.
Overall, the story made a good connection with the characters and brought out the hidden feeling these characters had for each other.
Msytery
This was a more high school setting. Here Rachel and Chandler are together and she finds Ross a bit irritating. Then before one of her classes her journal gets stolen and she is very upset about it. In a conversation Monica reveals that she is has taken it and then Ross comes over to talk to her. Rachel develops a liking for him and he walks her home and kisses her on the neck when leaving. I think it was a very sweet story and they way it is all put out. And I guess she was obsessing about Ross in her journal and Monica must have told Ross about it. That was why Rachel was easily irritated by him because she actually liked him. However, this story a narrative of Rachel’s character so we can’t be sure what Ross is thinking. However, Rachel does say that she loves Chandler and had a thing for Ross. But he did happen to make the move which actually made it a very pleasant read.
Overall, I like how the content of the story is and made the characters feel at home and everything connected in well.
Hurt/Comfort
This one was about Chandler and Monica and how Chandler is seeing someone else and yet when she comes to talk to Monica he feels attracted to her. Just a reminder I supposed of what guys are really like and go about hurting gentle hearts. I really did not like the fact that Monica was so sad and Chandler was not at all responding in a caring way. Only towards the end did he actually try to console her but really he wasn’t good enough. I dislike this part of the character. If I was to make give Chandler a good character, I would suggest he be nicer to Monica. She has been hurt most of the time, first it was her weight and then her relationship with him and it’s just not very fair for her to always be the one that has been put down. She is a very nice and character however organized and bossy she can be. It’s like Chandler had to be with her because of her state, but seriously I think that she should never have been with Chandler of what a creep he really is when treating her like that. I feel very sorry for Monica.
Overall, I was very disappointed with the whole story line and it just set an atmosphere of sadness all over.
This was about Monica, strange things happen to her and the she eventually sees this scary person in the bathroom mirror. Chandler thought she had been working a lot and hence had been seeing things. So he sends Phoebe over to check on her when she is at home. Upon arriving at Monica’s place she and Chandler find that she is in a very weird state. As if she was possessed by demon. She acted strangely and her eyes did not speak of her real self. But when Phoebe calls for Chandler to come in her body goes back to normal but is still in a weak state. They call the ambulance but are not sure of what might happen to her, or what has even happened to her in the first place. Well the story isn’t complete; it just ends there so it would have been more interesting to see what happens afterwards. Although it had a good flow and the characters mentioned were playing their roles are they were. However, this was a horror version so we haven’t actually seen Phoebe scared or Chandler freaking out as much as they did in this one. Chandler doesn’t seem to show much on his reactions in that much of a dramatic way as do the others characters so it was a bit hard to imagine him in a scary situation. Nevertheless, his love and care for Monica did come off well in this story.
Overall, well structured story line but would have been better if it was a complete one.
